Dear Colleagues,
We invite you to consider applying to join the Bankruptcy Court Liaison Committee for the Northern District of Illinois.
The purpose of the Liaison Committee is to promote efficient and open communication between the judges of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Illinois and the attorneys who appear before it. The Committee addresses issues impacting the Court and the broader bankruptcy practice, including local procedures and rules, standards of professionalism and etiquette, and the general state of practice within our District.
To further this mission, the Committee engages in a wide range of activities that benefit the bankruptcy bar, including:
- Publication of a bi-annual newsletter addressing timely topics and common practitioner concerns (e.g., mental health and well-being);
- Hosting social and networking events, such as our recent White Sox game outing;
- Offering free CLE programs designed to enhance practice and support professional development;
- Providing a direct and anonymous communication channel for practitioners to share feedback, concerns, and suggestions with the judiciary.
Most recently, the Committee assisted in facilitating open communication regarding the need for increase in Chapter 13 attorney fees.
Committee members also serve as accessible points of contact for practitioners and interested parties to communicate ideas or concerns, which are reviewed and elevated to the Bankruptcy Judge Committee Members under 28 U.S.C. § 154(b).
We welcome attorneys and professionals who are passionate about strengthening the practice of bankruptcy law and fostering collegiality within our legal community.
The application period will be open from August 1 to September 1. View Application.
