The court has installed drop boxes that may be used to deposit documents for filing and payments of fees during the hours when the Everett McKinley Dirksen U.S. Courthouse (Chicago) and the Stanley J. Roszkowski U.S. Courthouse (Rockford) are open to the public, Monday through Friday, excluding federal holidays.
A document will be filed and a payment recorded based on the date stamped on the envelope. Clerk’s Office staff will empty the drop box several times each business day.
Guidelines:
Please place your signed documents/payments in a sealed envelope. On the envelope, write your name, case number (if applicable), phone number, and email address. Make sure the information is legible. Use the time stamp to record the date and time on your sealed envelope; the date recorded will be the date filed. Documents and payments that do not comply with these guidelines can cause a delay in processing, and the items may be returned as deficient.
Note:
Documents an attorney files using a drop box will be reviewed and subject to a rule to show cause for failure to file electronically. Checks by Trustees for the deposit of unclaimed funds are allowed to be filed via the drop box.
