Proposed change to Judge Goldgar's Lake County chapter 7 call -- attorney opinions sought

Friday, March 15, 2019

Judge Goldgar is considering hearing his Lake County chapter 7 call right after the chapter 13 call in the morning rather than separately in the afternoon. He would like to know whether you think this is a good idea.

Lake County chapter 7 matters have been heard in the afternoon for many years. With the decline in chapter 7 filings, though, it may no longer make sense to have a separate afternoon call. If the schedule were changed, Chapter 7 matters would be heard after chapter 13 plan confirmations. Chapter 7 motions would probably be heard at 11:45 a.m., with set matters heard at noon. There would be no lunch break.

If you are an attorney who appears regularly on bankruptcy cases in Lake County, please comment on whether you believe this would be a sensible change, and explain why or why not. Send a brief email before April 14, 2019, to: CRD_Goldgar@ilnb.uscourts.gov. Be sure to give your name and the name of your firm. (Don’t worry. There are no wrong answers.)
