Bankruptcy Liaison Committee Statement of Purpose

The purpose of the Bankruptcy Court Liaison Committee is to promote efficient and open communication among the judges of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Illinois and the attorneys appearing before it regarding issues that may affect the Court, including local procedures and rules, standards of professionalism and etiquette, and the general state of practice within the Northern District of Illinois. To further that purpose, the Liaison Committee publishes a periodic newsletter, develops local practice questionnaires, and sponsors educational programs and social events to encourage collegial interaction between judges and practitioners. In addition, all members of the Liaison Committee serve as a point of contact for practitioners and other interested persons to anonymously communicate relevant ideas and concerns to the Liaison Committee where such communications can be presented to the Bankruptcy Judge Committee Members for review and consideration under 28 U.S.C. § 154(b), which provides that the Chief Judge of the Bankruptcy Court “shall ensure that the business of the bankruptcy court is handled effectively and expeditiously.”

Practitioners and interested parties wishing to anonymously share any ideas or concerns with the Liaison Committee may send an email to bankruptcyliaisoncommittee@gmail.com or directly contact any of its members using the contact information available on the Bankruptcy Court’s website at the following link https://www.ilnb.uscourts.gov/bankruptcy-court-liaison-committee.
