Thursday, June 15, 2023

The Bankruptcy Court Liaison Committee for the Northern District of Illinois is looking for practicing attorneys who are interested in serving on the Committee. The Committee seeks candidates for two-year terms to begin in August 2023. The Committee is composed of approximately twelve attorneys in private practice and includes representatives from the Office of the U.S. Trustee and the Chapter 13 Trustees. The Chief Judge of the Bankruptcy Court, the Clerk of the Court, and several of their respective colleagues are regular guests of the Committee at the monthly meetings.

The Bankruptcy Court Liaison Committee was formed to promote communications about Court procedures, etiquette, filings and other issues; to assist the Court and attorneys in creating a more efficient environment; and to represent a diverse group of bankruptcy attorneys from the Chicago area. Additionally, Committee members develop, participate in and support educational programs concerning issues affecting the bench, attorneys, financial institutions and consumers. The Committee also organizes and sponsors social events to allow greater interaction between the Court and the attorneys who appear before it.

If you are interested, please send a letter describing your professional background and expressing interest in serving on the Committee. You may also send any other information that may be helpful to the Committee in the selection process. If you have any questions about the Committee’s functions, please contact one of the co-chairs or any other member of the Committee. You can find the contact information for Committee members under “Liaison Committee” link on the website for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Illinois: http://www.ilnb.uscourts.gov/bankruptcy-court-liaison-committee.
