Access to Court Electronic Records
The United States Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Illinois will charge an access fee per page for users accessing public records in individual cases through the court’s Internet site.
The fee will apply to electronic dockets and imaged documents. Access to other areas of the court’s Website, i.e., local rules, court forms, news items, court calendars, opinions,etc. will remain available at no cost.
Users will need a PACER account to gain access to electronic dockets and imaged documents. Users of our dial-in service McVCIS can continue to use the login and password previously issued to them. If you do not have a PACER account, link to http://pacer.psc.uscourts.gov/register.html or call the PACER Service Center at (800) 676-6856 to obtain a PACER Registration Form. It takes about a week to receive a login and password from the PACER Service Center.
The court may, for good cause, exempt persons or classes of persons from the fees, in order to avoid unreasonable burdens and to promote public access to such information. Exemptions may be granted as the exception, not as the rule. The exemption language is intended to accommodate those users who might otherwise not have access to the information in this electronic form. It is not intended to provide a means by which a court would exempt all users. Requests for exemptions should be directed to the Chief Judge.
